Doriana Milazzo began studying the violin at a very young age at the “V. Bellini”
Conservatory in Catania, where she obtained the Diploma of Intermediate Studies
(5th year).
Winner of several national competitions as a violinist, she continued her studies
under M° Giulio Franzetti, first violin of Teatro alla Scala.
During the 1996 and 1997 seasons, she played with the European Youth Orchestra
for the summer festival “Opere and Concerti” at the Mancinelli Theatre in Orvieto.
She later devoted herself to the study of opera singing, earning in 2004 her Diploma
in Opera singing with top marks from the “G. B. Martini” Conservatory in Bologna.
She won several vocal competitions, including the “Umberto Sacchetti” Competition
and the International Opera Competition of Orvieto (second prize).
Subsequently she perfected her technique under M° Sherman Lowe.
In the 2003/2004 season she made her debut at the Teatro Comunale Pavarotti-Freni in Modena, performing La famosa invasione degli orsi in Sicilia by M. Biscarini (world premiere) .
The year 2004 marked her international breakthrough with the leading role of La Vestale by S. Mercadante at the “Wexford Opera Festival” under the baton of Paolo Arrivabeni, achieving great acclaim from both audiences and critics. The live recording of the performance was released in 2005 by Marco Polo Records.
In the 2004/2005 season, she took part in Peter Grimes by B. Britten at the Teatro
Comunale Pavarotti-Freni in Modena, directed by Cesare Lievi and conducted by
Alistair Dawes, a production later revived at the Teatro Valli in Reggio Emilia and
the Teatro Comunale in Ferrara.
In 2005 she also appeared at the “Festival delle Nazioni” in Città di Castello in
Lontano dagli occhi (music by L. Ferrero based on Chopin's Polish Songs, Op.
74).
For the opening of the 2005/2006 opera season at the Teatro Massimo Bellini
in Catania, she made her debut as Anna in I cavalieri di Ekebù by R. Zandonai,
conducted by Daniele Callegari and directed by Federico Tiezzi.
Among her other successes that season were her debuts at the Teatro Comunale
in Bologna and Teatro Rossini in Lugo in Bastien und Bastienne by W. A. Mozart,
under the baton of Diego Fasolis.
The 2006/2007 season opened with her acclaimed debut as Zerlina in Don Giovanni
by W. A. Mozart at the Teatro Grande in Brescia, a production later staged
at the Teatro Sociale in Como, Teatro Fraschini in Pavia, Teatro Ponchielli in
Cremona and the Opéra de Massy in France.
Other highlights include her debut as Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi by G. Puccini
under the baton of Julian Reynolds at the theatres of Modena, Ferrara and
Piacenza, followed by a tour at the theatres of Lucca, Pisa, Livorno, Bolzano, Udine and Ravenna.
In the same season, she made her debut as Pamina in The Magic Flute by W. A. Mozart at the Bilbao Opera House conducted by Jean-Christophe Spinosi, with stage direction by Daniele Abbado and sets by Emanuele Luzzati.
Alongside her operatic career, Doriana Milazzo has maintained an intense concert activity, performing in numerous recitals, including Stabat Mater by F. Poulenc conducted by Zoltán Peskó, a concert at the Teatro Regio in Parma with the famous Italian bass Michele Pertusi and a performance in London for Reuters News Agency.
In 2006, she made an European Tour with the world-famous tenor Andrea Bocelli under the baton of Marcello Rota, performing with great success in major cities such as Galway and Kilkenny (Ireland), Rotterdam, Antwerp, Zurich, Oslo, Helsinki and Athens.
In 2009 she received great acclaim for her interpretation of Klärchen in Egmont by L. V. Beethoven at the Teatro Lirico in Cagliari, alongside actor Claudio Gioé as narrator.
In 2010 she appeared in the Christmas Concert at the prestigious Smetana Hall in
Prague, performing with Peter Dvorský in the presence of the President of the Czech
Republic Václav Klaus.
In the same season, she made her acclaimed debut in the title role of Lucia for the
world premiere of Pietro e Lucia, a contemporary opera by Dusan Rapos,
conducted by Marcello Rota with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra at
Prague's Tesla Arena.
The 2011 season opened with a great success at the Smetana Hall in Prague with the live television performance of Mahler's Symphony No. 8 conducted by Libor Pešek. In 2016, the performance was released on CD by Czech National Symphony Orchestra LTD.
In recent years, she has devoted herself to teaching voice and, in 2024, obtained a Master’s Degree in Artistic Vocology under the scientific direction of Professor Franco Fussi, deepening her knowledge of the human voice and developing advanced pedagogical skills.
In November 2025 she participated as a speaker at the 15th edition of the International Conference on Phoniatrics and Speech Therapy “La Voce Artistica” at the Teatro Alighieri in Ravenna presenting a lecture on music performance anxiety in the artistic performance of singer.
She is a member of GIVA - Italian Group of Artistic Vocologists - an association of singers, voice teachers, vocal coaches, and speech therapists dedicated to promoting the culture and value of Artistic Vocology.
